Tammy Sills

MS, BA, Spellers Method Provider

Dana Johnson

Tammy is a Spellers Method Provider at Spellers Center Tampa. She earned a Master’s degree in Psychology and has been helping both children and adults in the mental health counseling field since 2014.

Tammy has a strong passion for working with individuals who have special abilities (both children and adults).

In 2019, Tammy learned about Spelling and she immediately fell in love with the possibility of helping those who never had a voice. Through her work, these individuals now realize their voice and use it…in a big way! In 2023 she joined Spellers Center Tampa, and she is now a Spellers Method Provider. As a Spellers Provider, Tammy spells with spellers of all ages and varying sensory and motor profiles. She also does gross, fine, and ocular motor exercises with spellers when applicable and necessary.

Tammy also works at her church in the Special Needs Ministry, serving families with neurodivergent members of all ages, presuming competence and realizing the potential in each and every student. She believes their abilities are endless, and there is so much that can be gleaned from them. She finds it to be an honor to learn from each of them.

It is her goal to help spellers and their families grow in their motor and spelling skills, aiding in further developing their daily living competencies, and allowing for each speller to be able to express their own feelings, thoughts, knowledge, and passions.

What do you love most about your work at Spellers Center?

“What I love most about my job with Spellers Center is seeing the growth that takes place within the spellers, freeing them from that “silent cage” that many speak about, and seeing the parents understand that their child is amazing and they are in there…in a huge way!”

What is something that you wish everyone understood about your job?

“I wish everyone understood there is a certain progression/protocol within Spellers Method for a reason. Rushing that process or skipping steps will only cause having to go backwards in the future. It’s so worth the wait to follow the process!”

When you’re not working, what do you like to do and how do you unwind?

“When I’m not working, I love to go to Disney and Tampa Bay Lightning games, and often I just like to relax at home with my 4 dogs! My favorite sport to watch is Baseball – I am a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan! I also like hockey and our Tampa Bay Lightning. And, of course, football and the Green Bay Packers! Unwinding also includes going for walks and listening to Christian music.”
